January is the perfect time to clean up your website!
January is a traditionally slow month for photographers. Our clients are taking a break after the holidays. Most people feel pretty spent (both financially and emotionally). It is the time when we all sit back, recover from the chaos of December, and tighten up the old wallet for a while.
At the beginning of my career I dreaded the slowness of January, and of the first quarter in general. It scared me. I’d have waves of the “I’ll never work again” panics.
Now I’ve come to appreciate the break. We all need a little time to rest. And the slowness of this month is the perfect time to get to work on all the admin stuff that gets neglected most of the year. For me, that starts with my website.
Why Your Website Matters
As photographers our websites are extremely important. They represent us, our brands and our businesses. They are often our client's first introduction to us. So we should all make sure our website is making a good first impression.
What Makes A Good Website?
A good website quickly and clearly communicates what you do and who you do it for (hint: your ideal client).
It is easy to understand and to navigate.
And it has a clear call to action, meaning, it directs your clients to do whatever it is you want them to do (book, contact, sign up...that sort of thing.)
Want a good website? Ask yourself these questions:
Does my site show the kind of work that I consistently give my clients?
Is it clear what it is that I do and what a client can expect to get if they hire me?
Is it easy to navigate?
Do my clients know what to do when on my site? Do I have a clear call to action?
