What Every Newborn and Family Photographer Needs to Know

“Nothing says "you got this kid" like the stamp of approval of a long established professional.”

Last month I opened enrollment for the Sandra Coan Certification program, and one of the questions I asked on the application form was “why are you interested in earning certification?

The answers surprised me.

You see, like everyone, I’m human.  And as a human, I struggle with self doubt from time to time!

I was called to create this program because as a certified teacher, I’ve always felt there was something missing in the photography education space…. Accountability!

Anyone can take a class.

And there are a lot to of great ones to choose from.

But let’s be honest, most of us don’t finish the classes we sign up for.  And when we do, there is usually no feedback, no critique, nothing to let us know if we’ve actually learned the material and passed.

That has always bothered the teacher in me.

People need feedback.

We need constructive and honest critique.

And we need people to cheer us on as well as to get us back on track when we’ve lost our way… ESPECIALLY when learning something new!

We need proof of mastery! Something that says we’ve done the work, learned the skill, and are now at the next level.

I wanted to give all of that to the photographers I serve.

And so the Sandra Coan Certification program was born!!

Sandra Coan Certification is a rigorous program that focuses on teaching photographers the foundations of lighting (natural and artificial) posing, and presentation!  It’s in depth.  It’s very hands-on (I’m ALLLLLL up in people’s portfolios).  And it’s something I’m extremely proud of.

I felt like there was a need for this kind of a program in our industry, but would others?

That I didn’t know.

So I asked each and every person who applied and was surprised (and happy) to learn that my gut was right!

This is what I learned from the almost 100 applications I read.

  • SO many of us struggle with imposter syndrome.

  • SO many of us know that we need to get better at some aspect of our craft, but we’re not sure what it is we need to fix.

  • SO many of us just want to KNOW that we are good enough.  Good enough to call ourselves a professional.  Good enough to charge what we need to charge to be profitable.  Good enough to put ourselves out there with confidence!

If that sounds like you, then I encourage you to follow this link, and get on the waitlist.

This program sold out in the first week it was open!  So get on the waitlist so that you are among the first to know next time we open the doors!
