My $20K Email

I did something in my own business that I wanted to share with you in case you need a quick cash injection. I sent one email that ended up earning me about $20K!

HIGHLIGHTS

Here's what you need to know so you can do the same thing in your business.

Quarter 4 is always the most profitable quarter in my photography business. First of all, it's the holiday season! Starting in September, my family bookings increase. A lot of people are looking for holiday card images and gifts.

My deadline for guaranteed holiday turnaround is the first week in November. The second week in November, I do the same thing every year that brings in a significant amount of revenue—mini sessions.

I let my email list know I was opening up slots for mini sessions, and they sold out all 37 slots in a few days. My mini sessions generate about $10K per day, and this year I am doing it over the course of one weekend.

One email generated $20K, and that is pretty good! Photographers usually tend to stay away from mini sessions, because they think they will keep clients from booking longer packages. The truth is, mini session clients and full session clients have different needs and are looking for different experiences.

Full session clients need and love longer sessions. They are the planners who don't want to feel rushed and are coming to feel special. Mini session clients are typically the procrastinators and want something quick and easy.

In order to be successful, mini sessions must be different from your normal packages. Making them different is how you serve those clients. For example, my minis are 15 minutes and normal sessions are a full hour. I also only offer mini sessions once per year, usually during the fall. Keeping them limited provides an opportunity for those procrastinators and creates a sense of urgency. One mini session mistake is offering them throughout the year.
