Why Luck Has Nothing To Do With Success

There is a famous quote from the Roman philosopher Seneca that says “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”.  Nothing could be more true!

I know that it is sometimes easy to look at people who have the business you want, or the exposure you want, or appear to have the life that you want and think “they are so lucky!”.  But the truth is, most of the time luck has nothing to do with it.

Successful people are successful because they work hard. They put in the hours. They study their craft.  They learn skills.  Often times without recognition, money or praise.  But when opportunity presents itself, they are prepared. 

I’ve seen this in my own life.  I spent years quietly studying my craft and growing my business.  Years teaching myself to create beautiful, natural looking light. Years making mistakes and learning from them.  Years figuring out exactly what it is that I do. 

It’s been a ton of work.  But you know what? The harder I work, the luckier I get.
